Eversion by Alastair Reynolds

Thank you @BruceTheWise for gifting me the suggestion of Eversion by Alastair Reynolds as my Media Death Cult secret santa. This is my review. I'll try to avoid major spoilers.

The story begins on a (nautical) ship on the way to investigate an anomaly. It follows the ship's doctor, who is also writing sci-fi stories to entertain the crew. When the ship is closing in on the anomaly, the story ends abruptly and seems to loop. Things have changed since the first time: technology is more advanced, there is some connection between the main story and the doctor's stories within the story, and it all gets a little weird and inconsistent and creepy.

I enjoyed the experience of figuring this out. It was cool how clues answered some of the questions, but then there were more layers to the story until the end. Some of the loops in the middle of the book felt a little uneventful and slow, but it's overall a short, fast and entertaining book.
